The end of January means it’s time to tube down main street.
There’s a reason Bracebridge, Ontario is called ‘the heart of Muskoka’ and it’s not only because of its central location in this popular travel district. Here, in the picturesque town that’s built around the meandering Muskoka River, you’ll find a heartfelt welcome in every season, and never more so than at the event that brings folks together for fantastic winter merriment.
Taking place on Saturday, January 28 in downtown Bracebridge, the second annual Fire & Ice Festival is a day-long celebration that features non-stop, innovative fun. From 9am until 9pm, the event is packed with things to do, places to eat and live entertainment that will leave you thinking winter might just be the best season of all.
The highlight of the event is a massive double tube run that extends down the length of Bracebridge’s historic main street.
Check out unique stores on your way to the top of the hill and then enjoy a long float down towards the beautiful Bracebridge falls – an experience guaranteed to make you smile whether you’re in the tube or watching.
In between runs there’s plenty going on, including the outdoor Beer Gardens hosted by the Griffin Gastro Pub (who are also hosting a ball hockey tournament), try-it fat biking with LivOutside, an igloo building demonstration with Algonquin Outfitters, The Fire Guy Show, maple taffy making with Sugarbush Hill Maple Farms, kids’ try-it snowshoe with Morrison Meadows, a pancake breakfast at the Bracebridge Fire Department, outdoor bowling, ice carving demonstrations, giant board games with Santa’s Village, a scavenger hunt with The Play Pit, a winter magic show – and much more.

Evening entertainment continues with the Glow Skate & Dance Party hosted by the Moose FM (be sure to visit their downtown studio during the day as well for prizes), a figure skating show presented by the local club, and the Fire & Ice After Party at the LIV Muskoka night club on main street.
Bracebridge also has a stunning Winter Village in the centre of town. Bring your skates and glide around the Memorial Park loops, and experience a true Canadian outdoor rink – one that will take your breath away (especially at night under the lights).
