The sun is out, the temperature is rising and classic automobiles are hitting the roads in Ontario’s cottage country. Plan to attend one or more of the popular antique & classic car shows taking place in the region this summer, where like-minded fans will gather to check out these incredible rides.
Kicking off the season, the 24th Annual Gravenhurst Car Show returns to Gull Lake Rotary Park on Father’s Day weekend, Saturday June 17, 2017. Bring Dad to Northern Ontario’s largest car show, with over 600 rare, classic and collectible machines on display. The show features food trucks, merchandise vendors and an exciting line-up of live music. Local brewery Sawdust City Brewing Co. sets up a licensed music lounge where you can take a break and enjoy an exceptional, cold craft beer. With many generous local sponsors, the show has hourly draw prizes, t-shirt giveaways and prizes for car entrants. Be sure to vote in the event’s popular ‘People’s Choice Award’, with a trophy for the Grand Prize winner and Top 10 finishers being awarded.
There will also be a kids’ zone with activities and face painting, as well as the park’s popular waterfront playground for family fun. Come early and enjoy the pancake breakfast at the Gravenhurst Legion from 7am to 11am. The event offers free shuttle service from The Residence Inn by Marriott Muskoka Wharf, Sawdust City Brewing Co and Gravenhurst Canadian Tire that runs every 15 minutes from 9am to 3pm.
Make it a full Father’s Day weekend getaway and take in the Bracebridge Father’s Day Car Show on Sunday, June 18 as well. From 9am to 3pm a section of downtown’s historic Manitoba Street will be closed off and filled with over 150 classic and special interest vehicles. The Main Stage will feature live music throughout the day, including local favourites, The Semitones. Local food vendors will also be taking part, providing delicious eats and sweet treats.
For participants, the show offers a wealth of prizes over a wide range of categories. These include awards for Best Original Vehicle, Best Street Rod and Rat Rod, muscle cars of the 60’s, the 70’s and modern, as well as modified imports and pick-up truck categories. Be sure to stay long enough to witness the prize awarded for Best in Show – always a fan favourite.
Head a bit north to the Village of Rosseau on Saturday, August 5 for the annual Classic Cruise Car and Boat Show. Held at the beautiful waterfront park, the show features both classic and antique cars and boats. Take the opportunity to view some of the elegant wooden boats that plied the waters of Muskoka’s lakes, many of which were actually designed and built in Muskoka. This year Sunset Cruises will be on hand with the Idyllwood and Peerless II – boats from the 1940 era. With a large display of cars and boats, this show has something for everyone.
Saturday, August 19 is the date for Parry Sound’s Downtown Car Show. A wide selection of antique and classic cars will be on display on James, Gibson and Mary streets. The event features numerous prizes in multiple categories. The show has a selection of food vendors, live music and activities throughout the day for both visitors and participants to enjoy. This year don’t miss a special appearance by Batman and his Batmobile!
